Printmaking

Students were to pick an artist of choice and write a two to three page paper about him/her. Then they were to use the style of the artist and create their own drawing using the artist's techniques and style. After the students designed their drawings they had to carve them out of a linoleum block and print it using paint to pick up the image.

SKELETONS

Students were to choose someone who has passed away. Then they were to create a skeleton that represents that person. The materials they used were wire, tape, and paper mache. Once they constructed the skeletons they had to paint them using acrylic paint.

My Art School

There is an art school in the city Panevezys that has no place of its own, because the government is not providing any money for the construction. When I started attending preparation class, the school was housed in the monastery, which was later reclaimed by the previous owners. Then the Art school moved to the small addition of the Panevezys Music School building.  Thus, both schools are now crowding each other in one building.

When I was younger, I enjoyed drawing princesses and witches. (These are popular characters from Lithuanian fairy tales ? D. S.) I drew everywhere I could: on the walls, in the books, or even on the match boxes. I drew everywhere I could scribble with colored felt pens. While in the kindergarten, I never missed any drawing contests on the street asphalt.

My mother brought me to the Panevezys Art School when I was eight years old (then I was in the second grade). For two years I drew, painted, and wove in the preparatory class. In the first and second grade of the Art School we already had special serious lessons: painting, composition, sculpture, drawing and History of art. I was not successful in the painting class. My teacher was newer happy with my color schemes. I was most successful in drawing classes. Now, I still especially enjoy drawing live persons, their surroundings, movements, and facial expressions.

While in the third grade of the Art school we already had to pick one branch of the Visual Arts. Finishing up the fourth grade, we had to produce three big projects and then defend them. I had chosen Graphic arts. The theme of my final project was ?Alice in Wonderland.? My four works had some resemblance to the stained-glass effect, and the technique was some white sheets of paper, black ink, and feather. Evaluators selected my art pieces as some of the best.

I am very content that I know how to draw. While in Lithuania, I was considering to further my studies at the Design School to become fashion designer. However, the move to the United States of America a few years ago did interrupt my studies.  I still am planning to enroll in some higher art school and reach my life?s goals.

Our Kelly Gallery started with  casual conversation between Ms. Daiva Skuodyte, Computer Lab 104 Coordinator  and student Julio Garcia. As one could easily guess, they spoke about ART.
Julio Garcia started drawing when he was about five years old.

"Of course, all my drawings were sketchy back then," - he says, "but I tried to make them better every day until I had them right."

Julio is also fascinated with cars,  and most of his drawings depict cars. Julio Garcia also plays in a rock band with his friends from Kelly High. Just recently, he started designing a web site representing his own and other rock bands of students, who attend Kelly High.

"I like drawing very much, and now, I am able to draw people, cars, and almost anything. Next year, I would like to take an Art class here at Kelly High. I like acting too, and belong to the school's drama club."
